Great Turn Out To Support Linden Homes-backed Women In Property Drive
20 Jul 2015

Award-winning Linden Homes North has hailed a high-profile event aimed at encouraging more women into the property sector a huge success.

The Hessle-based developer, which has recently acquired Shepherd Homes and opened a new satellite office in Wetherby, jointly sponsored the property and construction initiative in partnership with Taylor Wimpey plc and The Association of Women in Property (WIP).

Around 120 people from across Yorkshire’s property industry attended the event at the Oracle in Leeds to listen to expert speakers and take part in discussions on ways to attract more women into the sector.

Linden Homes’ strategic land and planning manager Jennifer Winyard said: “We teamed up with Taylor Wimpey to organise and support a similar event at the end of last year and it received a hugely positive response.

“We were delighted with the turn out of this most recent event, which gave us the opportunity to try and attract more women into the property sector, while allowing Linden Homes to further raise our profile in the region - publicising our expansion into West Yorkshire and the integration of Shepherd Homes, and to generally promote ourselves in the Yorkshire market.”

Jennifer, who is active on the WIP committee and is the immediate past Yorkshire & North East branch chairman, added: “As an organisation, WIP challenges businesses to rethink their policies from graduate recruitment right through to the boardroom, thus attracting and encouraging more women into the property and construction sector.

“Women still represent only 15 per cent of the property and construction industry workforce. The Association of Women in Property is working with businesses and other industry organisations to help redress this balance.”

Angela Heaney at Taylor Wimpey said: “We strongly believe that having a diverse workforce is not just the right thing to do but offers clear business benefits so we are very pleased to support Women in Property.

“With 19 per cent of construction workers reaching retirement age within the next decade, we will have a huge gap to fill. We need to invest today to ensure that we have the right skills, expertise and drive to meet the ever growing demand for new homes in the future, and this can only be achieved by attracting a much wider range of candidates than has been done in the industry before and that includes encouraging more women into the industry.”
