Family Fun Day Celebrates £120,000 Play Park Revamp

The village of Morton-on-Swale has staged its very own giant play date to celebrate a £120,000 revamp of the park.

The commencement of the major overhaul of the area has been marked with a Family Fun Day, sponsored by Linden Homes West Yorkshire and attended by dozens of youngsters and their families from the village and surrounding area.

Attractions included refreshments, stalls, a face painter, bouncy castle, obstacle course and tractors as well as reptiles, owls and rabbits – and the day gave the community a one day only opportunity to have a sneak peak and a play on equipment installed to date, with the park closing again whilst further works are undertaken with completion expected in early June.

Linden Homes were among the companies and organisations hosting a stall at the Fun Day, promoting the range of family homes currently available at the nearby The Dales development.

The huge play park project has seen the removal of the old and dilapidated play equipment which is being replaced with a range of modern, exciting equipment – much of which is suitable for all users no matter what age or ability.

The new look playground includes a toddler and junior area, multi-play tower, climbing wall, zip cable, windmill tower and much, much more. There is even an outdoor gym for adults!

Funding for the project has been through a series of grants and bids from the Lottery’s Awards For All programme, Yorventure, Veolia Environmental Trust and Tesco’s Bags for Help scheme. The funding has been secured by a dedicated Play Park Committee who have worked alongside the Parish Council to make the community’s dream come true.

The Council has used some of their Section 106 funding through an agreement with Linden Homes West Yorkshire (formerly Shepherd Homes). Developers are required by the local authority to make a contribution to the community in which they are building.

Play park committee member and Linden customer Kirsty McGready said: “It has been remarkable to see the project starting to take shape into such a superb new facility for the whole community. The committee would like to thank everyone who help to make it happen and to Linden Homes for their sponsorship of the Family Fun Day. We are sure many many people will enjoy the park for years to come.”

Pat Tennyson, sales manager for Linden Homes West Yorkshire, said: “This is such a wonderful project brought about by so many people and it is a pleasure for us to be able to support it in some way.”

The Dales offers a stunning range of three and four-bedroom homes, and is perfectly positioned just a stone’s throw from Northallerton, within easy reach for the A1(M) and A19 – ideal for commuters.

The Dales sales and marketing suite is open daily from 10.30am until 5pm. Alternatively contact the sales team on 01937 862835.
