Councillors from Eastleigh Borough Council have backed an ambitious housing scheme to build 1,400 new homes in Boorley Green, Eastleigh.
Councillors Keith House, leader of the council, Anne Winstanley, deputy leader and cabinet member for housing, and Rupert Kyrle, ward councillor and cabinet member for environment, praised the Boorley Green scheme during a tour today (Friday 6th October). Construction of the homes started in December 2016.
The houses are being built by a joint venture (JV), called Boorley Green Land, between developers Aster Group and Linden Homes, alongside housebuilders Bloor and Bovis.
The Boorley Green Land JV is developing 448 homes on the site and 140 of these will be offered as affordable housing. The remaining 308 will be sold on the open market. The first tranche of homes are already on the market and due to be completed by March.
Aster Group’s joint venture with Linden Homes is part of its long-term development plans, which will see it invest £1.5bn over the next seven years in a building programme across the south of England.
Amanda Williams, group development director at Aster Group, said: “The Boorley Green development is an ambitious project that will bring much needed homes to Eastleigh – with a significant proportion of these allocated as affordable housing.
“The housing crisis is a huge challenge up and down the country. Partnerships like our joint venture with Linden Homes are a great way of allowing us to build more homes at a quicker rate. As a result, delivering homes in this way is a significant part of our plan for investing in homes across the south in the next seven years.”
Philip Chapman, Linden Homes South managing director, commented: "It was a privilege to be able to show the Councillors around Boorley Park and give them an update on this exciting joint venture between Linden Homes and Aster. Together we will be delivering much-needed affordable and private homes resulting in the creation of a new community and supporting facilities including a primary school, shops and community centre.”
Councillor Keith House, leader of Eastleigh Borough Council, said: "Aster's investment in new affordable homes at Boorley Green is much welcomed. To fix our broken housing market Hampshire needs an increased supply of homes for sale and rent. Aster and Linden Homes are valuable partners for Eastleigh Borough Council delivering new homes and improving local infrastructure."
