Bake-off Battle Gets Tasty At Victory Fields Judging Day
13 May 2014

Budding bakers from the Upper Rissington area showed off their tasty talents in a competition held at Linden Homes’ local Victory Fields development recently.

Cakes were entered by contestants of all ages hoping to impress the judges enough to win cash prizes to the total value of £575 in the two categories of over and under-18s.

Victory in the senior section went to Peter Welsh whose ‘Chocolate Floral’ creation pipped to the post Carolyn Yarnold’s ‘Raspberry and White Chocolate Macaroons.’ Veronika Bosher picked up bronze for her ‘Chocolate Cake with Bananas and Custard, coated with Fudge and Cream.’

Gold in the juniors, however, went jointly to Bourton-on-the-Water brothers Sam (5) and Ben Redding (3) after the judges were equally impressed with Sam’s ‘Captain Carrot’s Treasure Chest’ and Ben’s ‘Sticky-toffee-saurus’.

Junior silver went to Lily Morgan for her ‘Easter Cake’ and junior bronze to Oliver James Stacey for his ‘Coffee Cake.’

The delicious entries were judged on the day by French chef Ghyslain Pramayon, of The Chilton Garden Centre, with the help of Linden Homes’ sales and marketing director Steve Garton and sales executive Catherine Marshall.

The bakers who brought their cakes to the final hosted by the Victory Fields sales centre had made it through the first round when people were invited to send photographs of their bakes.

Steve Garton said: “It was mouth-watering to see the creations in the final – myself and the rest of the judging panel had the best job of the day, I think! Congratulations go to all the winners and runners-up for their amazing efforts.

“At Linden Homes we really like to get involved in the community with events like this – we’re about more than building high quality houses. We’re delivering a new neighbourhood here, and if the bake-off is anything to go by it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

The bake-off is the latest competition to be held at Victory Fields after pupils from Great Rissington Primary School took part in an aircraft-themed challenge to name the very first show homes.

The new neighbourhood is set to grow into more than 300 properties focused on a village square with a shop, proposed public house and community hall, plus a gym and tennis courts.
