Fantastic News - Help to Buy: equity loan extended to 2020

The government has announced that they will extend the Help to Buy equity loan scheme to December 31st 2020.

  • You only need a minimum 5% deposit
  • Available to all househunters, not just first-time buyers
  • The government will lend you up to 20% of the value of your property through an equity loan, which can be repaid at any time or on the sale of your home
  • So you will only need to secure up to a 75% mortgage from a bank or building society
  • Available on new build homes only
  • Maximum home purchase of £600,000

Can everyone get Help to Buy?
Yes. Help to Buy is not just for first time buyers, and there is no maximum income cap. If you can get a mortgage, you can get Help to Buy. Find out more
Are there any fees to pay?
No. The Help to Buy equity loan is interest free for 5 years. After that you pay a fee of 1.75%, rising each year by 1% plus the RPI. You may also have to pay mortgage arrangement fees.
