Villagers dig deep to mark start of new chapter

Life has almost come full circle for the Waters family in Swanland, as an association with the East Riding village spanning more than six decades enters an exciting new chapter.

Having lived and worked there all his life, John Waters and his wife Shirley – owners of the very successful Swanland Nursery – have swapped the flora and fauna for bricks and mortar, to become our North region’s newest customers.

John took over the nursery enterprise, started by his parents in 1949, some years ago – turning it into one of the most successful independent garden centres in the area. The couple recently closed the business and sold the four-acres of land for new housing.

We invited John and Shirley as special guests to dig the foundations where we’re building stunning four and five-bedroom properties at the development - named Swanland Gardens.

John said: “I was born in my parents’ house on this very site, and have been proud to take on the family business – which saw the nursery win a number of Gold medals at RHS Chelsea Flower Show over the years.

“This latest opportunity marks a new chapter in our lives and our association with Swanland, which I believe is one of the best, most beautiful and friendliest villages in the East Riding of Yorkshire.”
