Cranleigh’s amateur bakers gave Mary Berry a run for her money at the first ever Great Cranleigh Bake Off.
On Saturday September 26th dozens of entrants and GBBO enthusiasts gathered in our show home at Swallowhurst, in Cranleigh, Surrey, to find out who would be crowned Star Baker and to raise money for charity.
We organised the competition with Maddalenas Café to find west Surrey’s best bakers, while raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support as part of its ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ campaign.
Liz Stone, Linden Homes sales manager, said: “The stunning show home kitchen at Swallowhurst was the perfect setting for such an occasion and there was a great show of support for the Bake Off entrants in a real display of community spirit from local Cranleigh residents.
“The Great Cranleigh Bake Off raised almost £400 for Macmillan Cancer Support, which will go towards much-needed practical, financial and emotional support for cancer patients and their family and friends.”
Joining Liz on the judging panel were Maddalenas Café owner Maddaline Punter and the Deputy Mayor and Mayoress of Waverley. Winners walked away with shopping vouchers, goody-filled hampers and baking kits.
