Top player: Linden Homes’ Jonathan Shelley presents Sam Carpenter (12) with the cup

Our South West region has been sponsoring Torquay Cricket Club and the winner of its Linden Homes Cup this year was 12-year-old Sam Carpenter.

The Torquay youngster won the club award for his excellent work on the cricket field, and he said: “I was so pleased to win the Linden Homes Cup. I love playing cricket and feel very proud to have won this award.”

Torquay Cricket Club has been in existence for 163 years, there are currently five senior teams, two ladies teams and six junior teams and its ground is situated near to Torquay’s seafront.

Club member Simon Rice said: “We’re delighted that Linden Homes supported us this year as it enabled us to invest in facilities and focus on competitions for all young people at the club. It really is great to be sponsored by a local company with a strong reputation.”

Brian Deacon, sales and marketing director at Linden Homes South West, added: “Congratulations to Sam! We’re delighted to support the local community in such a positive way.

“Inspiring the younger players really appealed to us; their enthusiasm for the sport is excellent and we have enjoyed following their matches – there are some very talented players.”
