New students at South Devon College started their academic year with a visit to our new development of Ogwell Brook, East Ogwell, near Newton Abbot.
The diploma trainees, who are working towards level one in carpentry and joinery, were given a health and safety presentation and site tour by local contractor Dan Lucas, who passed on the benefit of his experience.
The visit was another product of the Paignton college’s continuing partnership with Linden Homes South West, and was the first in a series of classes due to visit our developments this term.
Tutor Jonny Standing said: “This kind of educational experience is something we can’t give our students in the classroom. The trips are a great way for students to gain a greater understanding of construction.
“Being on site gives them a good chance to see the different stages of construction, the plant machinery used and the latest technology developments.”
Linden Homes health and safety administrator David Bell added: “Supporting students in this way gives us a great opportunity to introduce new recruits into the industry and give them first-hand experience of what we have to offer as an employer.”
Our insulation process includes blowing insulation into cavity walls, which means our homes are better insulated because there are less air gaps.
The blocks we use to build your home are the most energy efficient available and 80% of material within the blocks is recycled material - this saves heat loss from our homes and thus reduces CO2 emissions.
