Site manager John hangs up his hard hat after 30 years

Respected: Linden Homes North site manager John Grest was the “ultimate professional”

Respected: Linden Homes North site manager John Grest was the “ultimate professional”

Our North region has said a fond farewell to long-serving site manager John Grest, who has retired after 30 years.

Best known for working on successful developments primarily across north east Lincolnshire, John joined the company in 1975 – in its days as Procter Homes – as a site joiner.

As his career developed, in 2000 he later returned to Chartdale – which eventually became Linden Homes North – where he remained until his recent retirement.

Many would say his biggest achievement was the Freshney Green development in Grimsby, a regeneration site in conjunction with Shoreline Housing Association. John was on site for five years producing 319 homes, consisting of a mixture of housing.

He received a warm send-off from colleagues at the region’s Christmas party, where he was presented with a motorized golf caddy.

Linden Homes North production manager Kevin Hoyland said: “I worked alongside John for a number of years. He knew the role inside out and was the ultimate professional in getting the job done, and done properly.”
