Cricket players enjoyed using a refurbished cricket pavilion in its first season since being restored to its former glory as part of our Cholsey Meadows collection of homes in Oxfordshire.
The building was rescued from disrepair last year and formally handed over to Cholsey Community Trust, set up to ensure the development blends sensitively into the neighbouring village of Cholsey.
In its heyday during the 1970s and 1980s the ground hosted benefit matches between Kent CCC and a team from the site’s Fairmile Hospital, which has been transformed into quality homes. England cricket captain Colin Cowdrey once even took to the crease.
Its latest match was a friendly between Cholsey Cricket Club and a team from Whitchurch-on-Thames. Players and spectators were all invited to the cricket tea when play stopped for sandwiches, strawberries and scones with cream and jam.
Linden Homes Chiltern managing director Darren Maddox said: “It’s wonderful to see cricketers using the restored pavilion again. Events like this show how Cholsey Meadows is flourishing into a lively new community.”
