Primary school pupils enjoy a lesson in housebuilding

Budding builders: pupils with site manager Gary Coles and sales executive Sandra Longthorn

Budding builders: pupils with site manager Gary Coles and sales executive Sandra Longthorn

Housebuilding made an unusual appearance on the timetable for children at Swinemoor Primary School in Beverley, in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

Our North region invited a group of youngsters and teachers to enjoy a guided tour of the nearby St Nicholasgate development to learn first-hand how a construction site is run and what goes on behind the hoardings.

The visit was ideally timed as the budding builders and architects have been working on their own project, making models of houses and drawing plans.

They were hosted by site manager Gary Coles and sales executive Sandra Longthorn who gave them an insight into how a home is built and sold.

Linden Homes North managing director Ian Hessay said: “It was nice for our team to show the pupils round St Nicholasgate and give them a fun lesson in how a building site develops from start to finish.

“It’s important for us to involve the community in our developments in all sorts of ways. I hope this visit even inspires some of the pupils to consider a career in construction in the future.”
