Premier league ref blows time on charity golf day

Premier: former referee Graham Poll was guest speaker at the charity golf day in Ottershaw, Surrey

A charity golf day organised in Surrey by our South East region chipped in thousands of pounds for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Ninety-two players and 120 guests helped to collect over £12,500 from a full day of activities at Foxhills Golf and Country Club in Ottershaw – including a special guest appearance by former Premier League referee Graham Poll.

With £10,000 on offer for anyone scoring a hole-in-one, the day began with teams competing over 18 holes. Individuals vied for accolades for the best score, longest drive, nearest the pin, and even best dressed.

On top of the entrance fee and hole sponsorships, extra cash was generated for the charity funds through charges for buggy hires, team photos, buying a mulligan (a free extra shot), and the chance to try to “beat the pro”.

Linden Homes South East technical manager and charity golf day organiser, Rupert Woodcock, said: “We’re very grateful to everyone who took part, had fun, and helped us to raise so much money for such a worthy cause.

“Donations are still coming in and we are anticipating the final sum will come in around £15,000.”
