Over the last year our South region has been assisting its chosen charity, Oakhaven Hospice in Lymington, to the tune of more than £10,000.
The Hampshire hospice provides free day care, community care, hospice at home, and inpatient care for 180 people per week. It is only part-funded by the NHS, however; the rest is covered by fundraising.
During 2015 we supported Oakhaven by donating more than 100 items of show home furniture to two of its local shops – raising about £3,500.
And in April, our own Sally Frampton was joined by her colleague’s daughter, Libby Watt, abseiling down Portsmouth’s Spinnaker Tower to collect more than £4,000.
Furthermore, every month our Totton office relaxes with a dress down Friday with staff paying a small donation to do so. The teamwork raised another £2,512 for the pot.
Oakhaven’s head of fundraising and communications, Mike Denny, said: “Just under 12 per cent of our £3.7 million annual costs are covered by the NHS. For the rest we are wholly reliant on donations and fund raising initiatives like these, so we are very grateful for all this generous support.”
Peter Youll, managing director at Linden Homes South commented: “We are delighted to support such a great cause. Oakhaven provide much needed support to those that need it in the area and we are pleased to give something back to hopefully help the team as they head into 2016.”
