We’re looking to the next generation of builders with a new trainee development manager joining our South West region.
After 10 weeks of work experience at Linden Homes, 20-year-old James Phillips, from Torquay, is now job-shadowing; learning the ropes to prepare sites for the production team, involving planning permission, briefing architects and engineering issues.
Linden Homes South West managing director Nigel Palmer explained: “The two-year training scheme is designed to bridge the gap between education and full time employment.
“The on-the-job training will be complemented by attendance at South Devon College on a day release basis where James will work towards a HNC in Construction.”
James, who once played hockey in Australia for the England Under-18 side, said: “My parents both work in the housebuilding industry; after I enjoyed work experience so much it seemed like a natural progression to go into that field.
“I find working in the development department really interesting and I’m looking forward to progressing and one day earning the position of development manager.”
