Injured Royal Marines offered new career hope

Prospects: work experience will be offered to Royal Marines injured in Afghanistan

Prospects: work experience will be offered to Royal Marines injured in Afghanistan

We are giving a helping hand to injured Marines returning from Afghanistan to try out possible new careers.

Linden Homes South West has joined The C Group, a registered Royal Marines charity which assists in the recovery and rehabilitation process. Its vision is to integrate the business community into an established support network for the Royal Marines wherever they work and live.

Part of that includes work experience to give discharged veterans an idea of jobs they might want to pursue – or even the chance of employment in the right circumstances.

Most are aged between 18 and 24 and their military "can do" attitude has already helped some find work in the construction industry. Roles they might be offered to get a taste of include site managers, foremen, surveyors and sales executives.

Linden Homes South West managing director Bill Cawse was eager for the company to get involved to help those brave soldiers who cannot continue to serve find their way back into civilian life.

He said: “The country has clearly shown its appreciation of the sacrifice its service men and women have made, and we have to play our part in helping those who have been injured in conflict restart their lives.

“It would be wonderful to be able to offer the right person a job, and even if we just help to show them the possibilities then we will have given something back. We’re not just about bricks and mortar but also bringing real benefits to communities.”
