Our ground-breaking zero carbon development at Graylingwell Park, Chichester, was held up as an example to follow at a conference of building industry leaders.
Peter Youll, Linden Homes managing director for the Guildford region, addressed the Zero Carbon Hub’s second annual meeting in London in February, sharing an agenda with housing minister Grant Shapps, who gave a video speech.
The 750-home Graylingwell Park project is the largest carbon-neutral scheme in the country and features its own energy centre to provide hot water, 1,812 square metres of solar panels, an off-site wind turbine and comprehensive home insulation to balance its carbon footprint to a net zero.
It was a major talking point among members of the Hub, which is a forum to bring together key organisations to achieve the government's aim of making all new housing carbon neutral by 2016.
Peter said: "I was proud to address the conference and hold up to the industry our innovative and trailblazing development at Graylingwell Park, which has a lot to teach all of us about eco-friendly methods of building in the future.
“We take our commitment to sustainable development seriously so that we play our part in protecting the environment while bringing benefits to the community, as well as quality housing.
“It is always great to be recognised for innovation and also share our learning and experiences with such a superb technical project like Graylingwell Park. My presentation to the hub was to provide practical insights into real life low carbon development.”
