Prizes went to high-flying youngsters at a nursery in Bedfordshire who won a nature-inspired competition from our Midlands region to design the best homes for birds.
Children from Treetops Nursery in Sandy rose to the creative challenge of drawing, designing and even building their own bird boxes – in keeping with the theme for our new Kestrel Ridge development in the town.
The children spent several weeks working on their entries, which resulted in a visit to the nursery by Linden Homes Midlands’ area sales manager, Warren O’Callaghan, to judge the amazing results.
Warren said: “As a developer new to the town, it is important that we engage with the local community, and we were thrilled that the Treetops Nursery children rose to the birdhouse design challenge.
“The children have presented some truly fantastic and imaginative designs – which made the task of picking the winners extremely difficult.”
Vouchers for the top entries were presented to individual children, and as a thank you for taking part the nursery received a story sack – a puppet-based colourful storytelling aid.
Nursery manager Gaynor Lloyd said: “We’ve had great fun with this challenge – not only have the children been putting their creative talents to use, but we were also able to talk about nature, explore the local environment and habitat.”
