Community watches as demolition launches regeneration

We invited local people and representatives to watch the moment old post-war homes in Plymouth were demolished to make way for a brand new regeneration.

The ceremony marked the launch of work on Emerge, a fresh collection of homes being built in the Granby Green and Granby Street area of Devonport in partnership between Linden Homes and DCH.

Post-war buildings will be replaced by 101 quality new one, two, three and four-bedroom homes, 36 per cent of which will be affordable housing for local people. It follows Evolve, a nearby 219-home scheme set for completion this year.

Linden Homes South West managing director Nigel Palmer said: “We have received a lot of positive feedback; so many people are delighted the derelict buildings are going for good – the transformation is going to be fantastic.”

Tony Franklin, business development commercial director from DCH, said: “The Devonport regeneration project has successfully sought to re-establish confidence and pride in the area by placing the community at the centre of the change to plan for the future.”

Devonport ward councillor Bill Stevens added: “We are delighted that work is able to start on redeveloping this brownfield site and getting rid of outdated buildings providing modern, fit-for purpose homes for people in Plymouth.”
