Workers at our Linden Homes Guildford region rallied round to help a colleague raise hundreds of pounds for the Surrey cancer hospital that is treating his granddaughter for leukaemia.
The office has helped to collect £1,583 so far in support of 61-year-old commercial surveyor Cliff Rayward’s efforts for the specialist Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton.
He began his fundraising drive in gratitude for his seven-year-old granddaughter Ella Rayward’s care by staff on the children’s ward, having been diagnosed with the life-threatening blood cancer.
When his colleagues heard, they pledged to help and got stuck in to raise some serious cash with a cake bake sale and mufti day which raised nearly £600, plus donations worth almost £1,000 from generous business partners.
They also added £560 sponsorship to Cliff’s son, James, who completed a cycle ride between London and Land’s End to build up a separate fund for his niece in case Ella needs treatment abroad.
Linden Homes Guildford managing director Peter Youll said: “I know we all wish Ella the very best for her treatment – Cliff’s devotion as a grandfather is an inspiration.
“We are all only too pleased to be able to help raise money for a hospital which is such a worthy cause, treats so many, and has a special place in the heart of the community.”
