Cancer battles inspire Angela’s £6,000 fundraising push

Cash total: Linden Homes’ Angela Thomas has organised two balls for cancer charities

Cash total: Linden Homes’ Angela Thomas has organised two balls for cancer charities

The cancer battles of friends and family inspired Angela Thomas to organise two charity balls which have raised more than £6,000 to help fight the disease.

Angela Thomas, who is a sales executive at our Thames Valley region’s The Pitchings development, ran her first event several years ago after a relative wrote a moving account of how cancer had affected her and her family.

She determined to organise her second charity ball when both a colleague and relative were recently diagnosed with cancer. Her colleague is past the treatment but her relative sadly died aged 45 from a brain tumour just 10 months after it was picked up.

It was held on 13 June 2015 at The Westwood Hotel Abingdon Oxford and about around 90 people attended to donate for the Brain Tumour Foundation and Breast Cancer Research. We added our own support with a £500 cheque.

Angela said: “Although what I raise are not huge amounts I believe that every little helps. One day cancer will be detectable earlier and new treatments found – it may not be in my lifetime or my children's but I sincerely believe one day it will be eradicated.”

She added: “I am often asked if I will do another charity ball and I always answer the same – watch this space!”
