Building community links during York school visit

Construction became child’s play for York youngsters during a hands-on visit to our North region’s newest housing development.

We hosted pupils and teachers from the Mowbray Special School in Bedale at our prestigious 1877 collection of homes at Ouseacre, where they got a glimpse of what goes into building a house.

Named in tribute to the building that, in its heyday, was the largest railway station in the world, 1877 received its official opening at the start of the year.

About 14 children with learning or communication difficulties took their term topic out of the classroom and onto the construction site, with the help of Linden Homes site manager Nick Pennington and his team.

Teacher Laura Hoyland said: “The visit was fantastic and we really want to thank Linden Homes for making it possible. The children were able to observe a wide range of things, talk about site safety and also got chance to touch some materials that are used in the building process.”

Site manager Nick Pennington added: “Linden Homes is always delighted to engage with the local community and we were really pleased to welcome youngsters and teachers from the Mowbray School to the development and hope it was beneficial to their term topic studies.”
