It was a case of “hair today gone tomorrow” for one of our South West region’s health and safety managers who grew his locks for a year for charity.

Health and safety manager Mark Ozel raised over £600 for armed forces charity Help for Heroes. He is an ex-serviceman and appealed to his colleagues across Devon, Cornwall and Somerset to sponsor him.

But his efforts were boosted when he accepted a challenge from our team at the new Evolve development to endure a series of “restyles” by shaving off his hair in stages over several days.

Mark is a member of the Royal British Legion and fundraises for the Poppy Appeal all year round by selling draw tickets, street collections and sponsored bike rides.

Mark said: “What drives me to carry on fundraising is the people I meet at training sessions or on home visits and seeing the value of how I’m making a difference.”

Help for Heroes chief executive and co-founder Bryn Parry added: “Help for Heroes is all about ‘doing your bit’ and this event is a wonderful example of people having a good idea, rallying support and having a great deal of fun while they raise money for a wonderful cause.”
