To the south east of Northallerton, and bordering the North York Moors National Park, is the Howardian Hills AONB. Covering 79 sq miles of countryside, this is a unique and stunning landscape, complete with a number of scenic villages and historic country houses nestled within it. Visitors have the opportunity to take part in numerous activities here, including canoeing, horse riding and angling. If you just want to enjoy being in the open air, there is a large network of paths and trails to be explored.

Just under 30 minutes’ away by train is the attractive and historic city of Durham. Visitors to the city will be spoilt for choice with the number of options available to them. Sightseeing tours will show all the great places visitors flock to. Shopping centres, markets and numerous boutique retailers can be found throughout the city’s streets. Families can partake in a great number of sporting and outdoor activities, as well as visiting the famous Durham Catherdral and Castle.
