Selby is situated south of York on the banks of the River Ouse, in the Humberhead Levels, with great transport links to Leeds, Doncaster, Hull and York.
Selby is currently seeing regeneration and development with many new homes and apartments being built. This is on the back of the area becoming a popular tourist spot due to Selby Abbey.
An old coal mining area with shipbuilding roots, Selby made most of its wealth in these areas. But with the decline of both these economies its main income now comes from arable farming.
