Bristol: a well-connected city with so much to offer

Located less than 45 minutes from Bath, and approximately 8 miles from the M4, the popular city of Bristol is in an ideal location for commuters and families alike. A simple journey from Malago means you are within easy reach of both the M4 and M5 motorways, meaning road travel around the south west and beyond is simple. And with three rail stations within a mile radius, getting around by train is also easy. It’s these benefits and so many more, that will make Malago a fantastic place to call home.

What’s in Bristol?

  • Great shopping areas, both locally and within the city
  • An excellent selection of primary and secondary schools

For your everyday needs and ‘café culture’, North Street is the place to head to. Located less than a mile from Malago, you’ll find a diverse mix of shops, bars and restaurants to choose from.

Shoppers travelling into Bristol won’t be disappointed with the choice of shops here either. Broadmead and Cabot Circus, located in the heart of the city’s Shopping Quarter, are where you’ll find a great number of high street and high-end retailers, department stores and designer brands. The area’s Piazza is surrounded by a good choice of eateries and coffee shops, meaning that you’ll easily be able to find a menu that suits your tastes. For families and anyone who wants a break from the shops, there is a multi-screen Showcase cinema to experience the latest film releases and a crazy golf course, if you’re in the mood for something a little more active.

Families searching for new houses for sale in Bristol will find a great number of schools for primary and secondary school age children. Oasis Academy on Marksbury Road is the closest school for younger children, and will be next to Malago. Other primary schools nearby include Victoria Park Primary School (less than half a mile) and St. Mary Redcliffe Primary School (a mile and a half away). For secondary schools, Bedminster Down School and Ashton Park School will both be just over 2 miles from Malago.

The University of Bristol will be approximately 4 miles from Malago. Renowned for its innovation, excellent teaching and research, the University welcomes students from all over the world to study a huge range of courses.

What else will I find in Bristol?

  • A rich culture and excellent socialising opportunities
  • Excellent road and rail links, locally and nationally

Bristol is renowned for its rich culture, especially its well-known music and theatre scene. The Bristol Hippodrome is where you’ll find a great mix of productions to suit everyone, with everything from ballet to comedy shows and concerts to operas. If live music is your ideal night out, the O2 Academy and Colston Hall venues are the best places to head to, both of which host world famous artists and bands all year round. For a more social experience with family and friends, the buzzy Waterfront area is where you’ll discover a number of bars and restaurants. The Watershed is a hugely varied cultural space, with its own bar and café, while the Glassboat restaurant is a truly unique spot for dinner. If visual arts are more up your street, then this is exactly where you’ll be able to find it. Bristol has a thriving street art scene, and walking tours through the city - including one exclusively about the artist Banksy. If a leisurely stroll in a green, open space is what’s needed to clear your head, Victoria Park will be less than a mile from Malago.

Located just a few miles from Malago is Ashton Court, a mansion house and estate spread over 850 acres of grasslands and woods. Attracting visitors all year round, you and your family will find it ideal for relaxing, enjoying views across the city, and taking part in numerous, fun activities. Fitness classes are on offer, as well as horse riding and orienteering. For cyclists, mountain biking trails are popular with all ages and abilities, and there are also charity biking events and competitions throughout the year.

If you simply want to enjoy an event, Ashton Court is home to the annual Bristol International Balloon Fiesta. Held over 4 days in August, with a host of trade stands, entertainment and fairground rides, more than 150 hot air balloons from around the world take part, where together they make a truly stunning spectacle in the air that can be seen for miles around.

New houses in Bristol benefit from being close to some excellent transport links. Car journeys around the south west and further afield are aided by the M4 and M5 motorways, both being approximately 9 miles away. The M4 - which can be reached via an ‘A’ road network or M32 - provides routes to South Wales and London, making journeys to locations such as Newport and Reading easy. The M5 connects to the A38 - or the ‘Devon Expressway’ - in the south, and near to West Bromwich in the Midlands, meaning journeys to these parts of the country are also simple.

Making Malago your new home will mean you’re close to three rail stations; Bedminster and Parson Street (both less than a mile away), and Bristol Temple Meads (just over a mile). Bedminster and Parson Street both offer local train services to Weston-super-Mare (30 minutes), Taunton (around an hour), and Cardiff Central (approximately 1 hour 15 minutes). For journeys further afield, Bristol Temple Meads provides regular and reliable services to Southampton (1 hour 45 minutes) and London Paddington (approximately 2 hours).

What will I find outside of Bristol?

  • The beautiful landscape of The Cotswolds
  • The cathedral city of Gloucester
  • The famous spa town of Bath

Attracting tens of thousands of visitors all year round, The Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is a truly relaxing place to spend time exploring with family and friends. Covering a total area of almost 800 square miles, you’ll discover plentiful grasslands, streams and wooded valleys. Because it covers such a vast area, many towns and cities can be found here too, including Cirencester, Cheltenham, Stroud and Stow-on-the-Wold, meaning you’re never too far from shops and eateries.

Another location covered by the Cotswolds is the cathedral city of Gloucester. Dating back to Roman times, this is an area with a rich history and much to discover. Museums offer views into the past, with the Gloucester Life Museum, the Jet Age Museum and The Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum, all popular with locals and visitors. There are also a number of walks and tours, including cathedral tours, brewery tours and ghost walks, for those who are interested in something a little spooky. For shoppers, Eastgate and King’s Walk Shopping Centres offer a good number of high street brands, with many independent shops to be found in the Cathedral Quarter. For food and drink, there is an abundance of restaurants and cafés offering a large range of cuisines from all over the world. Socialising is also taken care of with several pubs and clubs dotted around the city, and for family days out, there are beautiful country parks.
